Skem JFL & Burscough JFL Unite to Form the West Lancashire JFL

Following successful discussions between Skelmersdale JFL and Burscough JFL, we are excited to announce that Skelmersdale JFL will merge into Burscough JFL, forming the West Lancashire Junior Football League. A move that will elevate grassroots football across the Borough and Beyond.
Pathway #
This merger will provide a clear pathway for teams and clubs from Under-6s to Under-18s, ensuring a structured and progressive development journey for young footballers. With plans to introduce four divisions per age group, we aim to create a more competitive environment, enhancing both enjoyment and player development.
Facilities #
The West Lancashire Junior Football League will have up to 10 sites in operation a Sunday morning which will allow us to run this robust league programme. The league will have a minimum of 3 Full size artificial pitches with plans to expand this further. As well, 6 grass sites that we will be developed and improved working with our partners.
As part of the FA structure change Future Fit, the West Lancashire Junior Football League could have in excess of 300 teams to start the 25/26 season looking at current member clubs and new registrations which we will be able to accommodate across our facilities.
Future for local clubs #
The ambition of the West Lancashire Junior Football League is to support local Football clubs to be sustainable within grassroots football for many years. Working together locally will achieve longevity, choice, and the highest standards possible across West Lancashire.
Next Steps #
As part of this transition, the current Skem JFL committee will step down at the end of the season, with new roles being redistributed within the West Lancashire Junior Football League to ensure a smooth and effective leadership structure.
The West Lancashire Junior Football League is committed to delivering the highest quality junior football experience, offering increased opportunities for players, teams, and clubs while maintaining the strong community values that have made both leagues a success.
We are working closely with Liverpool County FA to ensure a smooth transition takes place ahead of the new 25/26 season.

25/26 Registrations #
We will be opening up our registrations for current member clubs of the Burscough JFL and Skem JFL shortly.
New team registrations who wish to join the West Lancashire Junior Football league ahead of the 25/26 season, we will be releasing application forms on our social media in due course.
