Lancashire Moving to Tier 3

Friday 16 October 2020 20:30 by Jon Trenwith

We have been inundated with questions from teams to ask if people in the Liverpool City Region are free to participate in junior grassroots football in the Lancashire region, and vice versa, now that they're both in Tier 3.

There is a lot of confusion and misinformation going around. We just wanted to confirm that games in the Skelmersdale JFL will go ahead for teams that aren't affected by the Liverpool City Region Tier 3 guidance that was published yesterday.

People are not currently able to travel between the Liverpool City Region and the Lancashire region (or vice versa) for junior grassroots football.

If any teams are unable to fulfil their fixtures due to this, then please let us know ASAP by filling in a Fixture Cancellation Notice (if you haven't emailed us already to notify us).

We are constantly reviewing the situation and we will make further announcements as and when the situation changes. Note that we are reliant on what we are told by the Liverpool County FA, to whom our league is affiliated, and they are in turn liaising with the local councils.

The Liverpool County FA posted on Twitter today to clarify that yesterdays statement remains in place for now (regardless of what has since happened in Lancashire):

We are aware further guidance has been released by The FA with regards to travelling across tiers to play/train. However LAs have the authority to include their own restrictions and this is the case in our area for this weekend. So yesterday’s statement remains in place for now.

They then added:

We will be working with all our LA’s and neighbouring county FA’s next week to ensure we have a consistent approach and will update accordingly if necessary. We understand this is a difficult time for everyone involved and we thank you for your understanding and patience.

Therefore, we are hoping that the Liverpool County FA will be able to liaise with the local councils next week in order to look at these rules and agree something that is better for the teams in our league. This is out of our hands though, and we are waiting for updates like everyone else.
